At Home Care, Terrible, MCU Much Better

We provided my mother with at-home caretakers for over a year. It was incredibly expensive, and in retrospect, the quality was pretty bad. I should have paid more attention to warning signs at the time. Now that she is in a memory care unit she is much better cared for. I wish so much that we had skipped the whole at-home care step. What a waste of money that was.

  1. , give yourself grace. You were trying to do the best for your loved one, and you're not the only one who thinks that being at home is always the best thing. I'm glad to hear that your mom is happier and healthier since her move to memory care. - Warmly, Donna (team member)

    1. We have tried at home care and have found it to be spotty. The workers showed up late and spent a lot of time on the phone (and this is while I was actually at the house.) My recommendation for the community is to observe the type of care your loved one is getting first hand, if possible. Scott Team Member

      1. Hey, these types of problems are quite common; that's why it is always recommended to do thorough research before choosing any care home for your loved ones.

Some common indicators to find the best care home are:
        - Whether that care home is registered with CQC
        - What are their previous track records
        - What are their ratings on Google or any other review websites
        - How qualified their staff is, etc.

        1. Hi, and thank you for being here with us and sharing your thoughts with our community. When you explain, do thorough research, could you please let us know more about the research you completed and how you went about it? I know that when we were looking for care for our father, we visited many assisted living facilities to observe for ourselves the atmosphere, condition, nurse ration to patients, spoke with the directors, etc. Respectfully, Nancy Team member
