Heredity

My mother, her two brothers, a sister and their mother had it. So far, it has not shown up on my Dad's side. I was tested 8 months ago, and I'm on meds for it. I think it's helping. I'm 73, and in fairly good health. Here's hoping all goes well.

  1. thank you for this topic. Being aware of your risk is a good step in caring for your health. Getting tested is also good. It sounds like you have some good support from your doctor. Here's one article that one of our advocates wrote about Alzheimer's running in their family and how they manage their anxiety about getting it themself: https://alzheimersdisease.net/living/risk-factors.

Here are two articles written by the medical team on prevention: https://alzheimersdisease.net/prevention and risks: https://alzheimersdisease.net/risk-factors.

I hope that this community helps you feel not alone. We're all here for you. Keep us updated!

    1. , I'm sorry that so many of your family members have had this disease. WOW! I'm glad that has spurred you to get tested and on meds for it. I'm glad to see that it is helping. Can I ask how they tested you to see if you needed the meds or what they should do to help you? My mom is about your age and her dad had this disease. She is very concerned that she maybe the one who gets this disease. I'm glad to hear that you have a plan of action and are in good health. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing. 1. I am hoping all goes well with you too. I am also tipping my hat off to you for being proactive about your mental and physical health.

        1. I was just scrolling through the forums and I saw your post. The post was written awhile ago. So first I wanted to ask how you are doing?
My Mom and dad both had the Alzheimer's diagnosis. So it is always in the back of my mind.
Also, I wanted to send you some article links below, to two of my team mates(Kris & Holly) who have AD diagnosis and write about it. It is always eye opening to me to read their perspectives on their daily life, living with the disease. https://alzheimersdisease.net/author/kris-bakowski & https://alzheimersdisease.net/author/hollyrn. Hope that you are doing well and that the article links are helpful. Just Keep Swimming...Lynn Marie, "AlzheimersDisease.net Team Member"
