Drivers license and insurance

Is there a protocol for no longer paying for insurance for your loved one who is no longer driving? Does your insurance policy increase since you are now the sole driver? Does your loved one need to have their license taken away first?

  1. hi and thanks for checking in. As a caregiver to my father, I remember when it was time to have our father stop driving for his safety and others. I recall contacting my insurance company to receive the answers I needed for questions similar to yours. We kept Dad's license because it was still a legal form of identification for him when traveling and visiting offices for additional identity verification. Different countries and states have differing rules and exceptions, so if you haven't already, reach out to your local Department of Motor Vehicles and insurance company to learn more. Please return and let us know what you learned if you are willing. Respectfully, Nancy Team member

    1. Those are all great questions and I think that each insurance companies must have their own policies regarding this. I would contact their/your insurance company and just ask questions before making any decisions. They probably deal with this type of thing quite often. Scott Team Member
