How have you made your home safer for your loved one?
Patty Day
As Alzheimer’s progresses, it is often harder to safely do things around the house. People with Alzheimer’s may forget how to do things safely... what changes have you made or added to your home to ensure your loved one's safety?
To support our father and family, we added jingle bells to the doors of our home so we would know when someone was heading outside. The bell ringing warned us to check who was outside. If it were Dad, we would accompany him to ensure he did not wander and get lost. Dad's medications and family care keys were placed out of reach for added safety.

That’s a really good idea. Low tech. We got a Ring Doorbell and changed our dead bolt to one that required a key inside and out and lock the door with the key when mom was unattended because she just started going outside. It is too hot for her to stay out very long. Blessings, Kathy M team member.
