What feelings come up in reaction to FDA-approved therapy?

This week the FDA approved a therapy for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. This site covered the basics in this post (https://alzheimersdisease.net/treatment/aduhelm). My question is: What feelings are coming up in reaction to this therapy?

I've personally oscillated between relief, at there being an approved therapy, a sense of overwhelm, at how much work is still to be done, and guilt, at the fact that this is happening now, too late for so many, including my Poppop. Does this resonate with anyone else?

  1. It's odd, to me, that the study talked about breast-feeding and pregnancy. My mom is 85. That is not a concern we have, but this disease does strike people much younger, some even in childbearing years. That is scary. I would like to know more about the positive effects of the therapy, other than reducing plaque. The side effects, are plain and recognizable. The symptoms of the disease are obvious. What good can be seen in the patient receiving this therapy to offset the side effects. Can it be measured in quality of life? Is it in the time it buys with our loved one? Does it just slow down the progression for a bit, and how can you tell? I have so many questions, so it's hard to engage emotionally. I don't know whether to be encouraged or not. Would my 85 year old mom even be a candidate? or is this something that I may one day need? or is it for my daughter down the line? Blessings, Kathy M team member.
