My Loving Mom

My mom is in the memory ward at an assisted living facility. She is in the early moderate stage. Mom has a problem with recalling things, like when Dad died, at times forgetting why she is in the memory ward, forgetting that I called her, and not remembering what she ate.

I can still hold a conversation with her, but dread the day when she will get worse. I have not seen her over a year because of the stupid virus. I worry that when I get to see her she will be worse. I don't think I will be able to handle seeing her with the effects of late stage.

Well my mom has declined to a late stage where she was moderate only 2 months ago. She did fall down and lacerated her head which required 8 staples. I think it might be the reason for her recent decline to later stages. She now has to use a wheelchair, can't feed herself. Or use the toilet. She is sleeping more. My mom can only make short sentences. Sometimes you can't understand her. And she goes into trance like states at times. I'm depressed over all these changes and worry her time may be up soon.🙁

Well she sleeps most the time with a few nights of insomnia. My sister, who has the power of attorney and deals with the doctors, does not think she is sleeping too much. Debating with her is like being in a 1 sided discussion. She always thinks she is right. She gives excuses like my mom isn't interested in the phone sometimes or is in another room. My sister always thinks positive. It's like I have no say in the matter. But thanks for your input. Also my mom admits.she sleeps too much.o_O

<inline-mention username="rabbitguru" user-id="2375853"/> sleeping a lot is a common symptom of Alzheimer's. Does your mom have a hard time sleeping at night? Or just sleeps a lot in general? Alzheimer's can throw your body's internal clock off. A sun lamp or sitting near a window can help with this. It can become an issue if the person ends up sleeping during the day and not at night. But if your mom is able to also sleep at night, it isn't a bad thing. Have you talked to her doctor about this? Warmly, Elizabeth
