I was waiting for the other shoe to drop - afraid of going to a home.

I was waiting and waiting. I hv part of my facilities but not all of them. I am so afraid of a home, I dont know why, I guess it was my mom who told me about them. I do some reading also about them and it ant good. They are staffed poorly from are dirty cause they to busy and the patients do not care.

  1. Hi . Thank you for sharing. I am sure many others diagnosed with dementia have the same fear about memory care facilities. The good news is that while there certainly are some out there that are poorly staffed and run, there are also many that are entirely the opposite and provide excellent care and comfort for their residents and their families. Have you recently been diagnosed with dementia? Do you have family or support you can talk to about your future living options? This article provides some good first steps for finding assisted living facilities that are right for each individual: https://alzheimersdisease.net/resources/finding-assisted-living-home. 1. Hi @CommunityMember3b76ab, It's a huge change and it can be frightening. Ask your friends and associates with family in local homes, and even take a tour yourself.
There are bad places, to be sure, but there are also very good places. When I decided to be a CNA, I knew the kind of places I didn't want to work. I toured several facilities and found a local facility run by the Mennonite community, The home WAS like a home, there is a high level of interaction with the residents and a very family-like atmosphere. I gained many grandmas and grandpas while working there, and it remains one of the most positive experiences of my life.
I'm sending you some positive energy for finding a place that will feel welcoming, and that you can be confident will be your home. - Warm (((hugs))), Donna (team member)

      1. I hope you feel somewhat encouraged that there are good options and maybe you will have community. You have it here. Blessings, Kathy M team member.
