Medication management advice?

I'm trying to find a good way to managing dispensing and tracking medication. My husband is able to use dispenser that drops his doses by sliding a lever. But today I'm not sure what happen when I left the house. I came back to find multiple days doses missing. I panicked. He can't remember what happened or what he did. I need a workable solution, ideas.

  1. Hi Savie,
Thank you for sharing - medication management is a very important part of managing Alzheimer's, and you came to the right place! There are many, many, many ways to navigate this. My first question would be how many medications is your husband on? Do these medications need to be dispensed at specific times? For example, at night, with food, in the morning, etc? Amazon has the Pillpack, which sorts medication into nifty pouches based on day and time, this service is also free (no extra charge on top of the cost for his scripts). Let me know your thoughts on this, or if you have any other questions about this potential solution.

    1. Thanks for the information. I will look into this solution. He has meds he takes twice a day.

      1. Yes, that seems straightforward enough - it could definitely get tricky. Let me know how you make out! Amanda (Alzheimersdisease.net Team Member)

    2. it can definitely be hard to manage someone else's medication. One of our advocates wrote about how she manages her loved one's medication: https://alzheimersdisease.net/living/medication-management. She doesn't mention them taking more than they were supposed to, but she has an Alexa remind her loved one when to take the medication. Would it be possible for him to take the medication at the same time everyday when you were around? Or for you to give him a small baggie with the pills for that day while keeping the rest of the week's pills in a safe place? I hope your husband is okay <3 Thank you for your question. Warmly, Elizabeth (AlzheimersDisease.net team member)

      1. Thank you. I am using Alexa to announce when time to take meds. It helps. I removed the dispenser and only provide a daily dose. I'll see how this works out.

        1. Hi Savie, that sounds like a great idea. I'm hoping this works for you. Please keep us updated and posted on how this strategy is working. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Blessings and Peace, Kristin Martin, Community Moderator
