How do you pay for Alzheimer's care?

Long-term care is expensive. Have you managed to get assistance for paying for care? How have you tackled this part of caregiving? This is a place to share what has and hasn't worked for you and ask questions for other caregivers to answer.

Feel free to check out the following articles we have on paying for care:

  1. Commenting on this to see if we can get some more opinions. This is a significant issue for many in the community, so any tips or tricks you may have for doing this well would be greatly appreciated by others. -- Shannon (team member)

    1. What has worked for me is Aid and Attendance, a benefit from the VA. If you are a vet or the spouse of one you may qualify, if you have a limited income. Your spouse does not need to be alive for you to collect this benefit. My Mother receives this assistance for her care. It would be extremely difficult to make it all work without it.

      1. Really, really hoping for more replies on this question. All I am aware of is spend down all they money you have, including house, and go on Medicaid. Ugh, who wants todo that? Assisted Living and Long Term Care should not just be for the rich.

        1. We have just had to go deeply in debt to pay for mom. My parents income is just over the Medicaid limit.... so, in debt we go... It should be better options!

          1. have you consulted an attorney or financial planner that specializes in this type of thing?
