What are some therapy options for Alzheimer's?

  1. There are a lot of alternative therapies available ranging from cognitive behavioral therapy to online support groups. What is your therapy of choice?

    1. I don't wish to be attack please. 74 yo.Dignosed DEMENTIA several year's ago. I recently realize I have had it for 10-15 years. After Aricept and Memantine stopped helping about 3 years ago. My neurologist told me he was sorry! He had nothing else for me. It was certainly a shock. We gone through a 12 year period watching an uncle DIE OF ALZHEIMERS. I have always enjoyed life in the fast lane. Hobbies golf ,fishing, hotrods,MOTORHOME. I was having issues when driving the 45 ft MOTORHOME in tight places. Scratching paint. Forgetting how some items function. I couldn't do mechanical things I had always been able to do with the MOTORHOME or the hotrod. I have always been fortunate enough to be able to repair almost anything. THAT had left me..I sold a Barrett-Jackson 1963 Impala SS.I sold a MOTORHOME I had watched being built at the TIFFIN Factory. I was getting thing ready so my wife wouldn't have to.
But 19 months ago I ran into a friend that I had known a few year. His had severe ALZHEIMERS when we first met. SHE WAS very reliant on her husband. She seldom joined conversations. Well that had all changed. She was is in early 80s. But she looked great and took over conversations. Just totally different person. Remarkable.
She answered my question! NO NOT A MAGIC PILL But a COMPLETE LIFESTYLE CHANGE. SHE was going to a Holistic/ Integrated DOCTOR. In thier areas that was implementing Dr. DALE BREDESEN'S PROTOCOL.
WE NEVER FOUND A DOCTOR HERE to take us and help. BUT AFTER READING THE END OF ALZHEIMERS his book . We started on our own. I SAW IMMEDIATE RESULS. I'm repairing my 55 Chevy, and my MOTORHOME I bought. I also called my friend last week she answered in Detroit said she was visiting her sister without her husband. I have to go but. WOULD LOVE TO CONTINUE. 💘

      1. Hi , That's great to hear. While there is still no cure for Alzheimer's, there are definitely many avenues and approaches to managing Alzheimer's but the disease itself cannot be "reversed." I hope you continue to make progress and enjoy the things you love! This is a long and sometimes difficult journey but I am so happy to hear that you are finding respite in the things you enjoy. Thanks again for sharing, Amanda (AlzheimersDisease.net Team Member).

    2. Occupational Therapy is a great option for not only those effected by Alzheimer's, but also their family members. Knowledge is power. Attached below is an article explaining how OT could possibly help.
