Terry's Story

My husband found out in 2020 that he had Alzheimer's disease. At that time I was taking care of his parents. His dad had cancer, diabetes, and an COLOSTOMY bag. His mom has dementia.

Caring for family members

Terry's dad died on August 2nd of this year. His older brother has power of her medical, so he moved her to a nursing home where she has falling four times {she's been there about a month and a half} this last fall she broke her L1 in her back and her left femur.

I'm trying to get guardianship to bring her home. I also have my own mother who needs help now too.

My husband's experience with Alzheimer's

Through all of this my husband was stable but now he is loosing something it seems everyday. He tried speech therapy and he was in therapy for balance. Terry told me he didn't want to go back because it made him feel childish and he didn't like that he couldn't do most of the things.

It's been hard and I know it's going to get harder. We've been married for 34 years with two children. I love him and plan to keep him home with me.
