Activities for someone with moderate dementia?

My husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at 60. He is 63 now and not working so he is home all day. He’s not supposed to drive anymore (which means he can’t get himself anywhere), and he can’t follow instructions. Both of those factors kick out a lot of volunteering opportunities. He was mostly into sports so he doesn’t have any hobbies.

I need to work full time, and I’m really struggling with what he can do during the day. Any ideas?

  1. @Aryers My friend LynnMarie wrote an article about the benefits of occupational therapy. The OT can make suggestions of things to help him and keep him mentally and physically challenged and can asses the home to make sure it’s safe. Lots of ideas. Kathy M Alzheimersdisease.net team member.

      1. Hi . Hopefully, others will chime in with some activities that have worked in their situation. Have you considered or looked into respite care as an option? There are some wonderful places out there where those living with Alzheimer's disease can engage in activities in a safe environment. I am sharing a link to an interview one of our contributors conducted with the activities director of a respite care facility in NJ: https://alzheimersdisease.net/video/adult-day-center-activities.
