Accountability

Can our loved ones be held accountable for stuff they do?For instance, I just cleaned up a huge food mess that my HWA made— crumbs, mostly— and he said he didn’t do it. I said ok doesn’t matter who did it let’s get it cleaned up. But he just stood there and watched me do it. I mean even 3-year-old kids can understand that they need to be accountable for their actions. So what’s the consensus on this please? Thanks as always!

  1. Hi this is not easy for sure. I am revising this original comment as I agree this is a confusing and awful disease. I agree that this is hard to process for them. Jill (Team Member)

    1. Hmmm... interesting. Many other folks on other support platforms say not to hold our LOs accountable... that they are not able to process that. What a confusing screwy awful disease. Thanks, though!

      1. I revised my original comment as this is so tricky. I agree with you that this is such a confusing and awful disease. Jill (Team Member)

    2. Thanks! It’s all fluid I guess. Shows we’re all doing the best we can! 😔💕

      1. I am so glad you are a part of our community. Jill (Team Member)

    3. Hi , it is a tricky spot to navigate. Your HWD doesn't think in the same way that he did before or as you do. The access to those memories of consequences of actions are not so clear anymore, and he may not even be able to connect a situation with the consequence, or the way to remedy it.

I like the way you handled it, "It doesn't matter who did it, let's get it cleaned up"., without placing blame. You may have to provide gentle guidance as to the proper steps the cleanup should take. - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)
