Alzheimer's & Occupational Therapy

What has your or your loved one's experience with occupational therapy been like?

  1. I have been offered nothing in the way of occupational therapy, but have been in therapy, primarily needed BECAUSE of the diagnosis. I have experienced no difficulty in speech, language, walking or any movement outside of the fact that , being 82, I am not running without reason. I see very few reasons for running, and am perfectly able to move quickly when necessary.
So far, I have seen no benefit to myself because of the diagnosis, but, in fact, have gone through a lot of unnecessary appointments, attempts at "treatment" and a very disappointing and unhappy reaction by my family.
I have to attribute their reaction to the HORRIBLE REACTION THE WORD "ALZHEIMERS" BRINGS!!!. ANDI could certainly use some therapy, just knowing this is eventually fatal and, has no cure. I have noticed NOTHING so far. I walk, talk, and do, as I have always done. I do become lonely, but I would be lonely anyway, because I live in California, where EVERYONE DRIVES.
Having NOTHING to do with the subject, but much to my condition, is that, for some weird reason, the block I live on is 2/3rds VACANT. This is a VERY popular neighborhood, in a very desirable part of Sacramento, Calif. I have never seen it
so vacant, and as a former R.E. Broker, I JUST DO NOT GET IT!! It cannot ALL be because I AM LIVING HERE!!!

In any case, I still should have a primary Dr. and I do not have one. Common sense would tell a person I should have an MD. I have more than common sense. I put my husband through Medical School so he could become a Professor for University of California Med School, and then Chair of Dept. of Pharmacology.

YOU ALL ARE JUST LUCKY HE ISN'T WATCHING THIS OCCUR WITH HIS WIFE!!!

Apparently, I just have to leave U.C.Davis Medical Care altogether, just to obtain
    normal medical care!

  2. I relate! I’m in my late 80’s with this terrible disease and wishing the good Lord would take me!!

  3. I arranged to have an OTP visit which happened twice after which my wife sad she didn't need her and asked her not to return

  4. The OT approach is very useful for retaining independence with activities of daily living and routines particularly during and middle stages. All families respond differently but many find OT increases the safety, confidence and quality of life for their child.
