When to tell the little ones.

I’ve been diagnosed with Stage 1 Alzheimer. I’ve had the blood tests and brain scans to confirm it. We have told our adult children about it and our adult grandchildren know. But the little ones don’t know yet. Two are in high school and the other is 5th grade. It’s a struggle with me to always watch what I say. My daughters want to shield the little ones. What’s your thoughts? Thanks

  1. Hi , I understand both sides of this. It has to be what is best for your family, but my personal opinion is that there are age-appropriate ways to tell children of all ages about what is happening, and what to expect, and how to respond to potentially sticky situations. Have you talked to your daughter about the why, for you, or sharing this journey with them?

I thought I would share a few articles that may help the conversation, please feel free to share with your daughter and family:
