Early dementia

I have been dealing with my husband's mild stage of dementia for several years. Some days are better than other days. We take one day at a time. He is taking a memory pill that is supposed to help with the progression. We are thankful that we have help through the VA. I miss our younger days. Now they are just memories. Keeping myself busy helps a little. I realize that eventually my hubby will get worse but I will deal with that when it happens. This is a great site.

  1. Hi , we're glad you found us and that you're here with us! Has your husband fairly stable, or has there been a noticeable progression? I'm glad that you've been able to get help that you are both comfortable with. How are you both doing today? - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

    1. Thanks for your reply. Some times we all need someone to vent to. The memory pill that he is currently on helps a little but my hubby is slowly starting to get a little worse. The neurologist said this will happen from time to time. He forgets how to do simple things that were second nature to him. Some days are better than other days. He can still putsy around the yard and he enjoys playing games on his iPad. I got him interested in reading which is good for his brain. Today seems to be one of he better days but that can change from time to time. Unfortunately he has other health problems besides the dementia like diabetes, neuropathy, hearing loss and arthritis, high blood pressure and high cholesterol to name a few. My hubby actually found this site and told me that I should look into it which I did. Its a great site. I have another VA caregiver site that I also use. I can reach out to them for anything that we my need. I am thankful that I finally got him hooked up with the VA. sorry for the long post.

    2. , you never need to apologize to us. We're here to listen <3 Im glad it seems you have a good team surrounding you. Yes, reading, word games and puzzle games are helpful. I'm glad he's enjoying them.

I'm glad your husband is having a good day, I hope you are as well! - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

  2. puzzles would be welcome to us

    1. , do you enjoy doing puzzles? I do as well - I do them on my kindle (the cats can't play with the pieces, lol). - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

  3. That’s a good way to do it. You are so right about loosing pieces of puzzles. That has happened to us lots of times. Our dog looks for pieces to drop and she runs to her bed and dares us to take it. She is a long haired Chihuahua.

    1. , aww, that's cute! She wants to take part, too! I wonder how many pieces are in her treasure trove! Luckily our cats don't try to own them, just bat them around till they are lost, lol, and then all attention must go to the fur babies. - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

  4. Unfortunately I am her caregiver too. She has mild seizures, has Cushing disease, an enlarged liver, thyroid problems, cataracts and is on 4 medications. The medication has to be given at certain times so I keep alarms set. We both love her and will miss her when she is no longer with us. She is 11 years old.

    1. , oh, yes, that is the sad thing about fur-babies, they are never with us as long as we'd like. I hope she is with you for a long time <3 - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)
