Therapeutic Recreation in the treatment of Alz.

I am a CTRS, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with over 40 years of professional experience. Five years of my career was dedicated to the full time care of my mother who had dementia. I created a seven day TR monthly schedule for her to address and treat her symptoms. They were mainly anxiety, social isolation, sundowners, anger, fear, depression and nutrition. I assessed and created a treatment plan addressing her physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health. I truly believe Recreational Therapy is the best treatment for the symptoms associated with dementia. My mother was living proof. She had a wonderful quality life through a very difficult illness.

  1. , thank you for sharing. Much like the habits of those living in the Blue Zones (the longest living people on earth), social connection, a sense of purpose, strong family community, strong worship community - these kinds of activities can definitely benefit our LOWD, and their care partners. - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)
